we cannot change the cards we are dealt,
just how we play the hand.

Deep Conversations
i had a very deep conversation with a kopi aunty this morning (translated from hokkien to english)…
aunty: no work today?
me: yeap, doing my military service now
aunty: you don’t look that young!
me: indeed, it’s reservist – i’ve been working 5 years already
aunty: oh, what do you work as?
me: ehm, in the bank (first thing that came to my mind, as i never figured how to explain consulting – even in english)
aunty: one look i can tell that you’re the manager sort who earns a lot, i’m your parents are proud of you
me: i hope my parents would be proud of me even if i weren’t a manager who earned a lot aunty
aunty: you talk like you have kids (to which i nodded)
aunty: so you’d be proud of them if they end up as a kopi aunty?
me: (nodding slowly) as long as they are good at what they do
aunty: what about a crook?
me: (paused) i guess, it’s on them to be good at what they do. but, it’s on my wife and i to teach them to do good
the milo-ice was extra gao this morning.
the voices in my head-
i love my girl. a love so beautiful, symmetrical, tangible
God loves me. a love so great, unconditional, real.
my life in a nutshell. working towards loves of sorts. beautiful, symmetrical, tangible, great, unconditional and real.
a page, deliberately left blank.
Love is patient, love is kind.
It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.
It is not rude, it is not self-seeking.
It is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.
Love does not delight in evil, but rejoices with the truth.
It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
Love never fails.
I Corinthians 13:4-8
