Drive
perhaps driving manners provide an accurate picture of the country's people.
in the West, wide roads encourage crazy speeds, crazy speeds encourage hefty fines. it is funny how liberty and freedom is ingrained in these societies, yet lawsuits aplenty once lines are crossed.
in Malaysia, potholes and coffee money characterize the North-South highway. occasionally, you cut the lane of a Kelisa only to be overtaken by it, neon lights and afterburners in your face. beware of knife brandishing bandits and the crooked cop.
Singapore too, with its clean roads and lush green. we slow only in the face of speed cameras, in common knowledge of where they are. most of us in morning traffic give way to traffic police, but hardly to the ambulence. quite apt to the principle of doing anything, but not getting caught.
and Vietnam. motorcyles, cars, trucks, buses, bicyles, cyclos, pedestrians - in both directions on a single lane. no rules, just watching out for yourself and not getting someone else killed.
i quite like Vietnam.
