just how we play the hand.

An Interesting Meal
HongKahNorth basketball training ended around 10:30pm, with wisp ChiangMing and Fulun (otherwise known as wheel of fortune) joining us this time. It was pretty fun, with funny and unfunny jokes cracked and players from all walks of JCs merging as one. After the training, we proceeded to a nearby kopitiam for dinner, with a lurking understanding that the coach would pay for all our meals. Whilst the freshmen seemed out of place and donning masked pretence of courteosy, it was actually rountinely customary, and all of us tucked in without a thought for the coach's pocket.
But anyway, today's meal was a wee bit different because we did not order separate dishes of fried rice or horfun or mui fun, but 16 plates of white rice and several dishes. which. was. a. big. mistake. Because, basketballers simply don't have table manners when it comes to meals right after training sessions. It was pretty enlightening though, and it dawned to me that people from river valley are simply blessed with the gift of street wisdom.
So emerged the first dish of vegetables and fried egg, and it was hilarious seeing HuangHui lifting the plate of fried egg, and shovelling half its contents onto his own. The fried egg vanished within 10 seconds while the last strand of vegetables were last seen wriggling down the throat of Samuel. Amidst the confusion, i managed to fork up half a forkful of spinach, but that was it.
Then came glittering like the jewels imbued on a crown, sweet and sour pork. "MAI TU DIAO..." a warcry escaped Raymond as he lunged forward to scoop the remaining 2 pieces of meat on the plate. I was stunned. A record on its way to guiness no doubt, as 16 guys downed a dish in less than 5 seconds. Flabbergasted though, i was determined to get a decent portion of the next dish, after all, many had their plates of white rice majorly cleaned up while mine was still mountain loaded. Soonafter, a smell so delicious wafted into our nostrils and all eyes fell upon the waitress who was serving the last dish. No idiots, she wasn't a well contoured babe, on the contrary, she was a specimen of half a century. But, laced on her palm was a concinnity of concinnities, delicacy of delicacies, fried sotong!
The moment the dish made contact with the table, 14 forks sped in. Ahaz, this time i was ready, forks amiss, but my long limbs proved to be a classic weapon. Snatching the plate of sotongs, i decorated my plate of white rice with at least 10 chunks of squids. Knowing well enough not to engage me in a food battle, the rest of the guys settled for the remaining sotongs on the plate. Desparate, with eyes on the verge of falling off their sockets, Samuel (who was from rvhs and currently in sajc) abandoned all utensils and grasped for the remaining squids with his bare hand. Shocked i was, and i expected to hear a shrill cry of disgust piercing through the night, but none was delivered. Alas, HongKahNorth, perhaps through the weeks, would teach me more than mere dribbling and shooting.

An Apology
"Forgive your enemies, but never forget their names."
-John Fitzgerald Kennedy
Wai Kit i am, to she from 2-2. A bad lag, i suppose. A letter passed through a series of people, but till date unseen to whom it may concern. But i've discovered its contents of lamentation, and i do realise the lurking pointy reckonings under the bad analogies often used in these blog entries. A lesson learnt, a mistake undone, and perhaps an enemy forgiven.

Backstreet Boys and Elton John - Friends Never Say Goodbye
"Just a little confusion
About what i lose
But if i start it over
I would know how to choose"
We call that person who has lost his father, an orphan; and a widower that man who has lost his wife. But that man who has known the immense unhappiness of losing a friend, by what name do we call him? Here every language is silent and holds its peace in impotence. Some may lose a friend through a fiery argument, others may lose it through an unfounded backstab. Behold the most tragic of all, the best of the bestest friends drifting apart, lost to the dimension of time and space. Inevitable, unavoidable yet as bound to occur as the North Star hangs brightly, it shall bear the deepest scar in all.

In Memory
"One day, there lived a man who wished to build a temple. And he built it for years and years, until a luxurious temple was erected. And then a red car came crashing into it. The man was angry, he took a purple car and chased it. And chased it. And chased it. But he never caught up.
He rebuilt the temple, and years later, yet again another luxurious temple emerged. A red car crashed into it again. And the man was angry, and he rode on a purple car and chased it. But yet failed to chase it again."
And you repeated the process painstakingly 7 times to me, till jeffery in front got so pissed he made a puddle on the floor.
You were a happy man, yuankai. A real happy one, beneath the grams of fats and layers of oil and blubber. Stay happy, and geniunely real, for such rare characters are sparkling diamonds of today. Come what may, shit happens and all, be the man i used to know.
As Ang Lai Chiang says "The Show Must Go On." Let the tears flow, but live on, stronger. Eegofreakz will always be behind you.

Halloween Party III
After what was meant to be the first HongKahNorth bball training for me, we made our way to Joan's place to ToaPayoh for yet another halloween party. No one was masked under a hideous disguise, nor did anyone don a suit which would induce consternation. I heaved a huge sigh of relief, for i had nearly cloaked myself as a dracula.
Anyway, after Huanghui spilled onto the floor sufficient rice to feed a platoon of soldiers, we began wrecking havoc at Joan's place. There was no difference in the 19 of us from a full scale tornado which weaved chaos as easily as Jingfeng downing a gallon of coke. At twelve, the limit had been surpassed and we were literally shifted out of Orleander Towers. Mistake of mistakes, catastrophe of calamities, it was the beginning of a million-step journey which saw 19 wandering souls fleeting from ToaPayoh to Raffles Place on a night rider (which only 6 of us paid), followed by a mad journey from Raffles Place to Marina Bay. Across marshland we sang, across highways we marched, across underpasses we scare, and eureka! We'd finally reached our destination at two thirty.
Much as the journey was horrendous to those muscle cells lurking beneath my calf, it was one which sparked new friendships and strengthened old ones. What more, i finally learnt the second last verse of GuangHuaiFangShi. Heh, think me as i finally made my way home yesterday, we should all enjoy life for there's plenty of time to be dead.

On procrastination
Yipee. My blog is finally up and running again. Thanks fangxi though for that brave attempt in trying to insert that comments thingy for me, but i guess html seems to take the toll on both of us, all the time. Screwed went my blog, and from the re-re-re-re-publishing of template, to archive settings, to blogbackup word formats, i spent a gazillion hours behind this damn screen trying to resurrect this damn page. Anyway, all well ends well, but alas, i'm back at square one.
Many many things have happened over this week, from OCIP which turned me into a morbid species of humanity on Thursday afternoon to endless halloween preparations and parties; From school turning into a drifting event which leads nowhere to Jennifer Tan's unlocking counsel. I've been told that procrastination is my strongest enemy, it is it that caused my present state of study affairs, it is it that caused a major dilema in life. I have to rid this lazy bug in me, and i've to quit procrastinating.
Heck, i think i'll quit procrastinating tomorrow.

i love my girl. a love so beautiful, symmetrical, tangible
God loves me. a love so great, unconditional, real.
my life in a nutshell. working towards loves of sorts. beautiful, symmetrical, tangible, great, unconditional and real.
a page, deliberately left blank.
Love is patient, love is kind.
It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.
It is not rude, it is not self-seeking.
It is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.
Love does not delight in evil, but rejoices with the truth.
It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
Love never fails.
